Downloading New Maps

Cortath is setting up new maps for the CoD4 game server.

 My question is this:  Will the new maps download to our computers automatically when we first log into the server? Or will new maps download as each appears in the map rotation? Can they be downloaded without logging into the game server?

As you can probably tell, I am excited about getting new maps -- like a kid.

 I asked Cortath the same question as i have satellite internet so  if a new map comes up while im playing it can take up to 1 hour for me to download it if its a large map,  Cortath suggested i download all the maps not on my list  during the night ,so for you Rabbit you just need to do as he suggested for me,  but will be a lot quicker for you lol

I would assume that they will download when the map comes up, but I am not sure.  I am also looking forward to new maps...especially small ones where I stand a chance against term and pure!

So, I made the new folder have named "mp_fav" in my "usermaps" folder in the Activision folder on my hard drive. But when I try to download it, it only downloads links to the 3 parts of the map, but not the parts themselves. They are tucked inside a link entitled "IQbXRj4a.htm.part.htm" in the "mp_fav" folder on my hard drive. How do I download the 3 files themselves?

Heretofore, I just hung around in the game server until the maps downloaded themselves.

To answer my own question. Apparently, you cannot do this in Firefox.

So, I used IE, in which there is a "download target" option, which worked fine. Except for one thing. The second program downloaded as a 5850 KB zip file, which I unzipped, and a subfolder resulted that is named "mp-fav" under the folder "mp-fav." Inside that new subfolder was another subfolder "images" containing 60 files with the iwi extension.

Now on my C drive, I have inside the folder "mp_fav" --
     subfolder "mp_fav"
          "images"
               60 ".iwi" files (totaling 11+ MB)
     mp_fav.ff (about 37 MB)
     "mp_fav.zip"  (about 6 MB)
     mp_fav_load.ff (1 KB)

The contends of the folder for this new map look very different from the other folders, which contain 3 files with t he same name as the folder, but with extensions like .ff, .lwd, and _load.ff. There is no .lwd file in the folder for the new map.

I this right for "mp_fav"? Is it different from other maps we have?

Hmmm....something went wrong with your download Rabbit. As always.....only 3 files should be in each map folder. The iwd, ff and load ff files. I'll try it out and see what the download does on my computer.

Yes, when I tried to play the map last night, it sent my computer into safe mode. I deleted the folder and let it install itself, and the map ran just fine.

Heff and I found an interesting glitch, which I may have to let him tell you about since I do not know if I will be on tonight. I may still be packing to leave tomorrow.
