Hello all! It's been a great few days in the server as we have come together to bring the server back to life. Now looking towards the future.....and keeping our members up with tech so they can play.....I'm going to start making a computer for our brother, my friend....PureKnight. Server just hasn't been the same without that Nutty One running around. I'm asking anyone who has parts that they may have laying around to donate, or newer parts would be ideal. I'm starting out with donating a brand new mother board which is still in box, and will take him into the next platform when that day comes. Here are the specs:

It would be great to have PK back in the server. But also remember that having a better computer could also help him in his ministry to the deaf and others. So this project can also serve God while helping a brother.

HEY! I've got 4x256mb sticks of Rambus memory laying around here somewhere .  Seriously I have 2x ATI HD3870's I'd be willing to give to our friend Pure.  While they aren't exactly top of the line anymore they still have 512 MB GDDR4 Memory and manage to play CoD 4 at a solid 92 fps @ 1680x1050 w/4xAA.  I've also got a crappy no name 550 watt power supply but I doubt it would be enough for any real usage.

I am humbled by your love and thoughtfulness. I never thought it would come to this. Wow. wow. I am actually speechless. And at the same time, I am not going to lie. I save up enough money... enough to buy nice laptop with wireless so that I can carry my work anywhere. I am currently shopping for laptop (unfortunate that I could not afford brand one but rather nice one... not stone age one, lol) and one of my friend plan to upgrade it (as soon as I found one) as it is necessary to get accomplishment that I am looking for. Well my friend....it just shows how much we miss you......and want you back. Unless you are getting something new.....it probably won't be able to handle gaming....not to mention going to a new platform in the future. I think the build should continue so you can follow us to the next platform if and when that comes. Glad you are getting something better for work.......way more important than gaming! Miss ya Bro!

I have a really old (circa 2000) gateway cd-rw drive sitting here and I can probably find a 120gb IDE HD somewhere.... Man my room is a mess.  As long as it goes to a good home I really don't care.  I was considering taking the stuff up to the school and seeing if anyone wanted it lol.

Then I achieved one of my goals!  Next is to get the Nutty One back to playing and spreading The Word........in special way you always did Pure!    With the money donated so far by Goose, Vafy, Best, Deacon, we can get that new mother board a CPU, Etchy has some graphics cards, and possibly a CD drive and HD. Mouko has some power........just need some RAM and a tower to put it all in. Way to go everyone!!

I get all of my computer parts through newegg.com   RAM is pretty cheap, last time I bought ram I think I paid $49 for 2gb at fry's electronics (some off brand) and $89 for 2gb of Corsair XMS at newegg.

Sounds good everyone. I was chatting with Pure yesterday. I had a few questions about what his needs were. After chatting with him......He is on cable, has monitor, keyboard, and mouse. The main chassis is the only focus......and I think it's all doable with the existing parts and pledges. At this point unless someone else has a better idea......or has the spare parts.....I'm going to order a tower from Newegg that has on-board power already. I can then install the motherboard I have, and put other parts in as they arrive. I'll give it a few days until I get the chassis.....then I'll send contact info if you want to contribute. With any luck........could have this build done by the end of the month. Again......thanks everyone for you help. I know there aren't enough tissues around for Pure! He's very thankful to Jesus Christ our Lord, and all his OCS Brothers.

As I was writing out a check for this build and a quick note to Cortath, a thought came to mind.

The thought was to post some of this thread in the public forum for non-members to see. It would be nice for the "world" to see what fellow Christians and OCS Members are willing to do for our brotherhood. When we edify and support others, it becomes attractive to the "world" to find out more about us and our belief in Christ.

I agree Deacon.....sounds like a good Idea. Maybe after this build is complete.....we can close the thread and move it to a different room, minus my contact info. I'm hoping that we can do more upgrades for members in the future. I'm sure not everyone needs a whole new build, but it's always easier for everyone to throw in a few parts or dollars here and there w/o causing to much of a strain on any one person. I'm really proud to be part of OCS.....and seeing this participation just makes me even more so!! Good job everyone!

Just an update, case and CPU have arrived at my house. I'll start installing mother board and CPU as soon as I get off duty.  Other parts will be installed as they arrive. Etchy may have some graphic cards, and sounds like Heff may have OS.

Graphics cards, HD, CD-RW Drive are all in a box packed to ship in my car... went to mail on Tuesday and Post Office was closed, on Wednesday I decided to UPS it, lo and behold they don't open until 4:30 PM when I have to be at work... Today I just plain forgot.  Will get in the mail tomorrow hopefully.  Someone want to call me after 12:00 Central and remind me lol?

Well I finally remembered to go by the post office and 1 small (don't remember capacity) IDE Hard Drive, 1 CD-RW Drive(sorry couldn't find a decent DVD drive and SATA DVD Burners run $19 nowadays), and 2 Sapphire 3870's (factory overclocked I think?) were mailed to Cortah via USPS Priority Mail and should arrive in 3-5 days (supposedly).

Great to hear Etchy! I had a chat with Heff as well. Things should be arriving in order of assembly at this point. I'm going to start looking through my stuff and see if I have an extra wireless card, as Pure has informed me his office is wireless. Also wanted to thank Gunny for his contribution. I recieved your check yesterday. Going shopping for some RAM tomorrow.....but at this point it will be the easiest part of this build.  I'll keep everyone updated.....and start taking some pics.

Cool. Heff sent software that arrived yesterday. I'm buying some memory today, as well as a CPU cooler. Etchy sent a package that should be arriving soon. With any luck we should have you all set up and online by the begining of the month.

Update: I got Etchy's package with HD, CD-R, and graphics cards yesterday. You the man Etchy!! Unfortunately I am on duty right now....so will have to wait until I get off duty on Tuesday. Most everything is here now. I am still looking for a decent CPU cooler. The local place didn't have a very good one. I'm going to look at another place while I'm here on duty. I've been assembling, installing, and updating all day and night. We have life now! LOL I'm actually logged into forums and writing this using Pure's computer!! LOL Had a few bugs and snags, and last minute hardware purchases....but it breathes! LOL I'm still planning on posting some pics, but for now I'm just focusing on getting the build finished. Heff, everything installed just fine....thanks. Etchy......graphics and HD work great. I left out the CD-R because only 1 IDE port and wanted to use that for HD only. Instead I went out and bought a DVD writer with SATA interface since I had 4 open ports to use. I've got 4 GB of Corsair Dominator coming from newegg, but am borrowing 2 GB from my Shuttle until it arrives to get everything up and running. Pure!! You better not have lost those BHD disks......or we'll be crackin' that Nutt shell of yours!! LOL

Update: I got PureKnight's contribution in the mail.

For the past few days I've been testing the computer. While I've been on Duty Spades has been jumping in on BHD and putting it through game testing. Everything seems to be working just fine. The case provides plenty of cooling......so no worries there. I'm just waiting on some memory to come in from Newegg on Monday or Tuesday.......and she should be ready to ship. Sorry Pure. I had hoped to have your computer shipped already, but ran into some trouble. It's a little complex, but the Realtek audio drivers were getting overwritten by a microsoft HD audio bus, causing the audio to fail. I know this might not be a big deal to you....but others using your computer might like a little sound, not to mention....I don't like problems or bugs to exist on computers I fix. Anyway......after much research.....I was able to fix the problem. Hopefully it'll purr like Mouko getting a belly rub when you get it.  Thanks for your patience. Ships out 12/5.

 I'm on duty right now in California and checking the tracking number......I see Pure's computer should be to him on the 10th. I'm sure he'll need a little time to set it up, install BHD, Pinger, name editor, and so on. I'd like to see Pure post a date and possible time down in an appropriate room so every can welcome him back properly in the server. I don't know what you have in mind Pure.....but for everyone else....I'm home Saturday afternoon.

I am working on Saturday from 8am to 6 or 7 pm. We are having Christmas Royal Ball (banquet type) at our church and our staff are on committee team. But however, I estimate that 8pm would be best for me. Otherwise.. wait and see. On Tuesday, I will be graduating from UCCS with my BA in sociology as well as completing my license (offical one for national appointed minister). Then I am gearing up for new launch in ministry and a long vacation that I deserved. Two vacation was cancelled this year so I do not have any vacation at all. EKK. I am kinda of burn out.

BUT HEY!!! I will be sure I find the time to play AGAIN! MAN! I MISS YA ALL especially miss to purifiying you all! I just cannot wait to get that computer!! YAYAYAY!!!

Update... Friday, I finally have time to change my room due to huge tower then until I found that the connection cable from moniter to the tower is not correct connection. By tomorrow, I will have time to get right connection then I am good to go to test it. Tuesday, I will have two final exams to attend to. And three papers to finalize. By then I will have more time as I would be on break! By the way, I will be graduting with BA in sociology this Thursday!!! AWESOME!

FYI........Pure had an adapter....he just had to find it. We had some cords come unplugged as well from the main board. UPS must have been throwing that thing around!! Anyway.....I was able to walk Pure through the reconnect and setup. He's up and running....just needs an internet connection.
